Alright so I might be a little behind with this post and reveal what a novice runner I really am, but here are the lessons I learned from 2013!
- Don’t forget to strength train!
- Hills show you what you are really made of.
- Some people’s idea of a flat, is not really flat.
- You may have a lot of friends who run, but it’s hard to find one who you can train with.
- It is possible to feel like your face is going to freeze off and three miles later, you are peeling off the layers.
- Run in the cold!
- Yes, you will eventually warm up after running in less than 30 degree weather
- Running a marathon in the rain is really not that bad.
- Running your first marathon and having no one to cheer you on at the finish line SUCKS!
- Not all downhill races are created equally.
- There can be TOO much of a decline.
- It’s true what they say about a PR, when you get one you feel amazing!
- 5k races feel more like a training run then a race (or maybe I am doing that wrong too and it will be on my list of things I learned in 2014).
- Compete against yourself and not others.
- Don’t miss a chance to run in the sun, because it will be winter again before you know it!
I am looking forward to the new year with new races on the
schedule. If you have any races that you want us to review, please let us know
and we’ll see if we can get some of our team there!
I am stopping by from the Friday Pin Fest. These are all great lessons. I started running last year, but have slacked off due to the cold. I'm looking forward to starting again very soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's really hard to run in the cold! It makes it easier if you have good cold running gear. I hope the weather gets better quickly so you can get back out there!
